Local Residents Dispatched by Red Cross for Hurricane Recovery
Volunteers with the American Red Cross from Central and Western New York are helping the victims of Hurricane Florence in North and South Carolina, including residents from Owego, Cortland, Marathon and Endwell.
The Red Cross says 21 Western and Central New Yorkers and two Emergency Response Vehicles were dispatched late September 13.
The volunteers are helping with everything from supply distribution to health and spiritual care.
The Red Cross says financial donations help provide disaster relief immediately. People wanting to help the victims of Florence can go to redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word FLORENCE to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
The group also encourages people to give blood. More than 140 blood drives have been canceled due to the hurricane.
