A Binghamton man is accused of trying to flee police while having a loaded handgun with a high-capacity feeding magazine in his possession.

The City Police Patrol Division stopped a vehicle for a minor infraction on Conklin Avenue at 12:21 a.m. July 27 when the passenger grabbed a plastic bag in the car and bolted from the vehicle.

25-year-old Shaleik Johnson was chased down by police and restrained by officers who wrestled the bag from his control and found the loaded 9mm Luger, 5.22 ounces of marijuana and U.S. currency.

Johnson is charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one misdemeanor count each of obstructing governmental administration, marijuana possession and resisting arrest and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He was sent to the Broome County Jail.
