LISTEN: Johnson City Mayoral Candidates Debate
The candidates running for mayor of the village of Johnson City discussed their positions on a wide array of issues during a live debate on WNBF Radio.
Republican incumbent Martin Meaney and his Democratic challenger Christina Charuk responded to a series of questions during Monday's broadcast.
Meaney is completing his first four-year term as mayor. This is the first time Charuk is seeking public office.
The candidates discussed their views on crime and homelessness in Johnson City. They also talked about commercial development, including the continued transformation at what now is the Oakdale Commons and what steps can be taken to support the village's small businesses.
Although Election Day - November 4 - is still a few weeks away, some Broome County residents already have voted by sending back ballots they received in the mail.
Early voting at four specially-designated polling places will take place between October 25 and November 2.
People with questions or concerns may contact the Broome County Board of Elections online or by phone at (607) 778-2172.
