A KeyBank branch office that had operated in downtown Binghamton for nearly five years has closed.

The operation at 65 Court Street shut its doors permanently on Friday. The company had announced plans to close the office in March.

The Buffalo News has reported KeyBank intends to reduce its "total network" by about seven percent this year with the closure of more than 70 branches.

Accounts at the Court Street office are being transferred to the KeyBank branch at 282 Main Street on the city's West Side.

The downtown branch closed Friday afternoon. The ATM was quickly removed from the site.

Workers began the process of removing the KeyBank signage on the building Monday.

The site has been home to a succession of bank branch offices over the years, including Chase Manhattan and First Niagara.
