A massive redevelopment plan for the old Davis College campus in Johnson City will be discussed at the next meeting of the village planning board.

A group called Square Deal Partners LLC hopes to acquire the 13-acre property between Riverside Drive and the Susquehanna River for a major housing project.

Eddy Pezzino of Square Deal Partners told WNBF News plans call for the creation of "close to 75 units" of housing at the site.

Pezzino said the goal of the developers is to create "good housing that's affordable" for young professionals working in Broome County. He said the project would include some "really nice amenities" to create "a community within a community."

The large gymnasium and former café will be used as part of the project.

Signs posted on the property indicate the planning board will hold a public hearing for a mixed-use planned unit development proposal. The session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the village hall on Lester Avenue.

If the planning board approves the site plan for the project, Pezzino said Square Deal Partners would expect to close on the property purchase by late July or early August. He said construction at the site could start by the end of summer.

Davis College ceased operations at the Johnson City site five years ago. The campus and two related properties were acquired by Adam Weitsman for $3.7 million in December 2019.
