Plans to erect a memorial for a Johnson City Police Officer who died on duty in 1925 and another who was shot to death this past March are moving forward in the Village.

The board of trustees has approved a plan by the Johnson City Police Association to build an $8,000 tribute to 26 year old Harold Huff, who died almost 90 years ago, and 43 year old David ‘DW’ Smith, who was shot to death March 31 by 43 year old James Clark outside of Southern Tier Imaging, where Clark worked.

Clark was killed in a gun-battle with police after fatally shooting Smith.

Huff was killed in August of 1925 when his patrol car was hit by a train as he responded to a report of a girl being beaten by her father.

There had been a tribute to Huff located in the Police station but plans for a memorial were started following Officer Smith's murder.
