Plans for the $15.5 million project call for the creation of 67 apartments and the renovation of five single-family homes on the site near the Route 201 roundabout.

The first phase of the Riverside Gardens redevelopment project in early June brought the removal of dozens of large trees that had been on the property for decades.

Workers now are busy across the 16-acre site, which was acquired by David Drew of Vestal for $4.5 million.

Drew said many of the trees that were taken down were near the end of their life. He said new trees will be planted to replace those that were removed.

Apartments with one to three bedrooms will be available in the complex. A restaurant and gym also are planned at the site.

The former Davis College library building is to be leased as office space.

The Bible School Park post office on the campus remains open. The U.S. Postal Service extended its lease for the building before the property was sold.

The residential units at Riverside Gardens are expected to be completed by next August.
