The carousel at Johnson City's CFJ Park is out of service because of mechanical problems.

According to village officials, trouble developed with a carousel part over the past few days. Although the carousel continued to run, a part was "making a funny noise." That prompted the closure.

The problematic part was removed so it can be repaired. The part must be welded before it is reinstalled.

A statement released by Mayor Greg Deemie's office indicates the carousel could return to service Friday afternoon.

Replacement parts for Broome County's historic carousels are difficult to obtain because they're no longer manufactured.
