Sweet Success! JC Boutique Bakery Celebrates First Birthday
The past year has been filled with challenges but a small Johnson City bakery is holding a special event to mark its first year of operation.
Gabriella's Cakes & Co at 265 Main Street held its soft opening last February with a launch just before Valentine's Day.
Before she opened her own shop, Gabriella LoPiccolo-Gregory perfected her baking skills working for several years out of a kitchen at her father's restaurant in the town of Maine.
The European-style bakery offers an array of sweet treats and produces specially-decorated custom cakes for weddings and other occasions.
LoPiccolo-Gregory spent a lot of time choosing the location in downtown Johnson city and in setting up the shop.
She said the biggest challenge for her is trying to anticipate what people will want.
Gabriella's Cakes & Co will hold its first birthday party on Saturday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m.
The retail bakery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
