A fast-moving fire caused extensive damage to a three-family apartment house in Johnson City.

The blaze at 205 Hudson Street was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.

Heavy flames were shooting from the two-and-a-half-story wood frame house and power lines were burning when firefighters arrived.

Initially, there were reports that people may have been trapped inside the burning building.

Johnson City firefighters were assisted by units from the Binghamton and Endwell fire departments. Off-duty village firefighters also were called in to help battle the blaze.

Ambulances from the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad stood by at the fire scene. There was no information available about possible injuries.

Hudson Street was closed for a few hours because of firefighting operations.

Fire investigators remained at the scene early Monday morning trying to pinpoint the cause of the blaze.

Meanwhile, the investigation continued into a deadly fire that destroyed a house in eastern Broome County earlier on Sunday.

A man died in a blaze on White Birch Lake Road in the town of Windsor. That fire was reported around 4:45 a.m.

WBNG 12 News reported that in addition to the death, two other people were hurt in the blaze.
