Jared Kraham, Binghamton’s Youngest Mayor, Takes Office
The 51st mayor of the city of Binghamton has appointed several people to key positions at City Hall.
30-year-old Jared Kraham was sworn in on Saturday. He's the youngest person to serve as mayor in Binghamton's history. He started his official work day on Monday with a clean desk at his new fourth floor office.
Kraham has been immersed in local politics since he was a child. He was five years old when his father, Jeffrey Kraham, became Broome County executive.
Kraham became very familiar with city government over the past eight years serving as Mayor Richard David's executive assistant or deputy mayor.
Kraham has chosen former newspaper reporter Megan Heiman to be his deputy mayor. She has worked at City Hall since 2017 as the assistant to the mayor for neighborhood and youth affairs. She previously reported for the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin and for the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland.
Among Kraham's other appointments: Sarah Glose, economic development director; Patrick McGinnis, parks and recreation commissioner; Daniel Maerkl Jr., public works commissioner; and Brian Seachrist, corporation counsel.
Some key people from the David administration will remain in their existing jobs. They include: Dr. Juliet Berling, director of the department of planning, housing and community development; Lori Clift, information technology manager; Ronald Lake, city engineer; and Chuck Shager, city comptroller.
