On Saturday November 18th, based on information from a press release, Environmental Conservation Officers (ECO) stopped two individuals that were headed to a local butcher shop in Sullivan County.

What the ECO's found was a 4-point buck, a doe and a black bear. All 3 animals not only were harvested on the opening day of hunting season but all were taken by 10am. The ECO's decided to investigate.

The two subjects transporting the deer claimed it was harvested by their grandfather. Following the investigation it was determined that the hunters were sharing their grandfather's hunting tags and the grandfather wasn't involved at all. That's not all they found.

As part of the investigation ECO's pried open the buck's jaws and found a mouth full of ground corn. It appears that these hunters, and at least 3 others, baited a nearby property with 150 pounds of goat corn.

The subjects were charged with the illegal take of protected wildlife, hunting deer and bear with the aid of bait, lending tags to another, and possession of a loaded gun in a motor vehicle.
