Vacant Vestal Building Reborn as Modern Storage Facility
If you’ve lived in the Vestal area for a while, you probably remember the building at 1000 Front Street, the old American Freight location that seemed to sit empty for what felt like forever. For a long time, it was one of those places people would drive past and wonder what would eventually happen to it.
Now, that long-vacant space has a brand new purpose. The building has officially reopened after a full redevelopment and is now home to VIP Storage Front Street Vestal, a modern indoor, climate-controlled self-storage facility that has brought new life back to a once-empty property.
A Familiar Vestal Building Gets a Fresh Start
The 26,000-square-foot building has been completely transformed after sitting vacant along one of Vestal’s busiest corridors.
Rather than leaving the space unused, the property has been redeveloped into a climate-controlled storage facility designed to serve both residents and businesses in the area. The project represents another example of how older commercial buildings in the community are being repurposed instead of left empty.

What’s Inside the Newly Redeveloped Space
Inside the building, the space has been converted into fully indoor storage units designed to protect belongings from temperature swings and humidity throughout the year.
Units range in size from smaller 5x5 spaces, which can hold seasonal decorations or smaller storage needs, to 10x20 units large enough to fit the contents of an entire home.
All units are climate-controlled, offering protection during the hot summers and cold winters that Upstate New York is known for.
Technology Is Part of the Experience
The new facility also leans into technology to make the process easier for customers.
People can reserve and rent units entirely online, and even access their units using their mobile phones. The goal is to create a simple and convenient experience without requiring in-person paperwork or office visits.
A Multi-Use Building on Front Street
The redevelopment didn’t just focus on storage. The building also shares space with Synergy Athletics and Apex Sports 607, two sports performance organizations that provide training for athletes in the area.
That combination has turned the property into a multi-use destination that blends storage and athletic development under one roof.

Part of a Larger Expansion in Broome County
The new Front Street facility is part of a broader expansion for VIP Storage in the region.
The company also operates a storage location on Stewart Road in Vestal, behind Best Buy, and is currently developing another facility in Chenango Bridge to help serve the growing demand for storage across Broome County.
