On February 10, 2015, Rouland, who was 32 years old at the time, was reported missing to the State Police in SP Lyons by her husband, Thomas Rouland. Her husband revealed that he had last seen her leaving their Fairville Maple Ridge Road residence around 6:30 p.m. on February 9, 2015. What baffled investigators was that Kimberly left behind all her personal belongings and her vehicle.

A widespread search and investigation were launched in February 2015, with the hope of discovering Kimberly Rouland's whereabouts. Unfortunately, the case took a tragic turn on March 12, 2015, when her body was discovered approximately a mile from her home. The location of her body was a snowbank on a steep embankment along Martin Road in the town of Arcadia, Wayne County, New York. The medical examiner ruled Kimberly Rouland's death as a homicide.

The loss of Kimberly Rouland left behind three young children, aged 4, 10, and 11, at the time of her death. The devastating impact on her family and the unresolved nature of her case has driven the New York State Police to continue their investigation.
