Redesigned Trophy For Dick's Sporting Goods Open

The DICK'S Sporting Goods Open celebrated it's 15th anniversary and by every account it was a huge success. The Zac Brown Band concert on Friday night, August 19 might have been the best concert yet at the DSGO.

New this year was "Birdies for Cancer" at the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open with Broome County Community Charities. For every birdie made during the three-day event, money was donated to the UHS and Lourdes Hospital Foundations.

Security Mutual will also give a 10% match on every dollar raised. There was 939 birdies made at En-Joie Golf Course and when we find out the financial tally, we'll pass it along.

We also crowned a new champion, Padraig Harrington as he picked up his second win of the season. He said that he'll be back to defend his title next year and try to join Brad Faxon as the only back-to-back winner at the golf course.

Harrington is a class act and a true professional and I can't wait to see him again next year when he makes his return. But did you notice something different this year during the trophy presentation?

When the European raised the trophy, I noticed that it looked like the winner's trophy got a little facelift.

Take a look below at the differences between the two trophies. Harrington is on the left, and 2021 winner Cameron Beckman is on the right:

A couple notable changes. For one, the 2022 trophy definitely looks like it's been eating its veggies, but it seems a little beefier.

Also, the two rings around the tournament's logo are gone, but it looks like an even trade because now the logo sits on top of a large golf ball that looks nice. The base is now hollowed out, so it definitely looks easier to hold since there's something more to grab onto.

There's also a variety of sports symbols surrounding the pedestal of the trophy (a baseball, a basketball, a fishing hook, etc). Seems weird at first to have those on a golf-specific trophy, but then you remember all the different sports equipment that's sold by Dick's Sporting Goods, and it starts to make sense.

So what do you think of the redesign? Congratulations once again to Padraig Harrington and we'll see you in 2023 when PGA Tour Champions returns to En-Joie Golf Course.

It'll take place earlier next year, June 19th to June 25th. Some people have wondered why the date has moved to the end of the high school year. The dates are set by the PGA Tour, not the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open.
