A new study found that New York retirees have one clear favorite, and it may not be the game you'd expect. According to Coventry Direct, Backgammon is the most popular retirement game in New York.

The Study Looked at Search Trends

THey looked at Google search data from the past year to see which retirement games people in each state were searching for the most. They compared more than 20 popular games, from card games and board games to puzzles and outdoor activities. In New York, Backgammon came out on top.

Retirement Games Are About More Than Fun

Whether you're playing with friends at a community center, challenging your grandkids, or enjoying a quiet game at home, many retirees say games help keep their minds active and give them a reason to spend time with other people. That's one reason games have stayed popular for generations.

Other Games Are Popular Across the Country

While Backgammon was number one in New York, other states had different favorites. Sudoku and bocce ball tied as the most popular retirement games nationwide, each finishing first in seven states. Dominoes and Mahjong were also popular in several states, while pickleball ranked first in parts of the West.

Is Backgammon Your Favorite?

If you haven't played Backgammon in years, this might be the perfect excuse to dust off the game board. And if it's not your favorite, don't worry. Whether you enjoy cards, puzzles, Bingo, or pickleball, the best retirement game is the one that keeps you having fun.
