When we think about moving, do you take the time to think about how it could affect your healthcare? I have to admit that I hadn't thought about that before but I'm not thinking of moving away from New York either.

So New Yorkers, how does moving to a new place impact your healthcare? A recent report by Harmony Healthcare IT has the answers and it could be a real eye-opener from many of us from the Empire State.

Over half (58%) of Americans don't even think about healthcare when they move, and almost a 1/4 (22%) struggle when it comes to finding a new primary care doctor after they move.

If you haven't given this much thought before, you are not alone. In fact, almost 1 in 5 people admit they regret not finding out about their healthcare before moving away. Nearly half (46%) of people procrastinate when it comes to finding a new doctor after they move. Some people even put it off for over a year!

When it comes to finding a new doctor, the biggest problem is insurance problems, followed by doctors not taking new patients and a lack of doctors that are nearby. In New York, it feels like half of the state is moving away at the same time. It turns out that could be true.

According to the NY Times, almost 50% of us move at least once every 10 years, so it's important to think about our healthcare needs when we're making that big move. So if you are packing your bags and moving away to "greener" pastures, don't forget to find out about your healthcare needs.
