
June Is Jumpin’ at Genesee Country Village & Museum
If you’re looking for something different to do this month, you’ve gotta see what’s happening at Genesee Country Village & Museum. This place is not your average museum, think of it like stepping into a real life time machine but with beer, bagpipes, dancing, and food.
History on Tap: Friday, June 13th
This is like happy hour but in a village out of the 1800s. You’ll get to sample beers, ciders, and wines from 20+ local places, including the museum’s own brews made by Rohrbach Brewing Co. There’s live music, games like croquet and lawn bowling, dancing, brewery tour, it’s a party with a whole lot of history. 21 and over.
Father’s Day Fun: Sunday, June 15th
Dads get in free on Father’s Day, and there’s so much to do. Check out old-school trades like blacksmithing and printing, and see the museum’s gorgeous galleries. There’s even a Father’s Day chicken BBQ including pie. .
Juneteenth Celebration: June 18th & 19th
The museum is celebrating of the end of slavery in the U.S. On Wednesday (June 18th), you can hear a powerful story from children’s author Alice Faye Duncan about Opal Lee (she’s basically the “Grandmother of Juneteenth”) and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On Thursday (June 19th), kids 12 and under get in free, thanks to Wegmans. Both days include live performances, storytelling, and a walking tour that dives into the real history of the Genesee Valley.
Celtic Faire: June 21st & 22nd
Bagpipes. Kilts. Meat pies. Dancing. Caber tosses. The Celtic Faire is a celebration of Irish, Scottish, and Welsh culture. There’s live music, Irish dance shows, food and drink, and athletic competitions. You can try hurling or cricket (don’t worry, they’ll teach you). There are many of booths with handmade goods, clan histories, and fun stuff for the kids.
Historic Base Ball For Everyone
Want to see baseball like it was played in the 1800s? Wool uniforms, no gloves, totally different rules. The men’s teams play June 15th and 29th, and the women hit the field on June 14th. All the games are included with admission.
Wanna Learn Something New? Try a Workshop
Ever want to spin your own yarn? Learn to dye fabric the old-fashioned way or arrange flowers like they did back in the day. Here are some of the hands-on workshops happening in June: Garden Design on June 14th and Yarn Dyeing, Wool Spinning & Haudenosaunee Beadwork on June 28th
