Residents in Endicott are growing increasingly concerned and frustrated, as a bizarre and dangerous issue continues to escalate. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that they are investigating multiple incidents involving loose nails and screws being found in residential streets.

The affected area lies between En-Joie Golf Club and the Roundtop Picnic Area, with repeated findings at intersections including West Main Street and Bassett Avenue, Marcella Street and South Grippen Avenue, and Main Street and South Grippen Avenue.

Tires Taking the Hit

Over the past several months, unsuspecting drivers have paid the price, literally, for this sabotage. According to an email that we received from a local resident, over 100 tires have allegedly been damaged due to sharp metal objects scattered across main and side roads.

The email stated that in some cases, nails appear just hours after being cleared away, leading to speculation that someone is intentionally and repeatedly dumping them.

Under Surveillance

In response, investigators are actively reviewing all available footage from public and private surveillance systems in hopes of identifying the person or people responsible.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with a security or doorbell camera to review footage and report anything unusual. Even the smallest piece of information could help put a stop to this ongoing safety hazard.

Neighborhoods on High Alert

As the mystery deepens, local residents have taken matters into their own hands by forming a neighborhood watch program. With more cameras installed and more eyes on the streets, there is hope that someone will soon spot the perpetrator in action. Until then, neighbors are left checking their tires and scanning the road before backing out of their drivewaysor roll down the street.
