Life in Upstate New York has always been a little sweeter, and now it’s official - two candy shops in the Upstate area are getting attention on a national level as they clinch top spots in America’s best candy shop rankings.

Saratoga Chocolate Company in Saratoga Springs snagged the title of the third-best chocolate shop in the country, as voted by readers of USA Today. This woman-owned shop is a chocolate lover’s dream, offering a wide range of chocolate bars and gourmet treats in flavors ranging from traditional creamy milk chocolate to funky combinations like green tea and sugared violets. With a cozy cafe feeling, this spot is a must-visit for all things chocolate.

Heading southeast on I-87 will put you at Samuel’s Sweet Shop in Rhinebeck, a charming local hotspot loved by both locals and visitors. Owned by Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, this candy store and coffee shop is a treasure trove of goodies, featuring an array of popular candies alongside rare finds handpicked by the owners.

By the way, if the name Paul Rudd sounds familiar, it's because he's an actor who you know from the dozens of movies he's appeared in. And his partner? Well, you know  Jeffrey Dean Morgan, also an actor, from a variety of movies and TV shows but most likely for his role as the character Negan in the show “The Walking Dead.”

It's All About Chocolate At These Wonderful Central New York Candy Shops!

Whether it is Valentines Day, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, or any of those other "candy centric holidays (Halloween!), here are several fine chocolate and candy shops all found within the narrow region of Central New York.

There are chocolate shops in the Syracuse area and all the way south to the Binghamton/Johnson City are, and then a quick jog east to Oneonta and Cooperstown. Each has their own little niche to excel in, whether as a supplier of fantastic penny candy from our youth, and artisan chocolates in all kinds of molds.

Each candy store had a link to their business. Check them out and stop in and their bricks and mortar store, or order online (offered by several of these shops). We will look at stores like this in other regions of Upstate New York in upcoming galleries.
If you know of a great chocolate shop or candy store within the confines of Central New York, please give it a shout out over on our Facebook page!

Should "Sponge Candy" Be New York's Official Candy? We Think So!

There are many types of popular regional foods across Upstate New York. From spiedies in the Southern Tier to Michigan Hots in Plattsburgh, every region can boast a favorite. And, since New York State does not currently have an "official candy," we would like to nominate sponge candy for that honor. If you are from Buffalo, I know you will agree. And if you are not, you might be asking "what the heck is sponge candy?" For that group we invite yoiu to read on in this gallery!
