New Yorkers Are Ready to Drop Bad Habits
It's 2026 and some New Yorkers are still trying to follow their New Year’s resolutions. New search data shows people in the Empire State are more focused on breaking bad habits than any other state in the country. Things like cutting back on screen time, taking a break from social media, eating less junk food, and stopping procrastination are top of the list.
New York Leads the Nation in Resolution Searches
New Google search trends found that New York has nearly 80 percent more resolution related searches than the national average. That makes New York the most engaged state in the country when it comes to setting goals. In fact, searches about breaking bad habits in New York were almost three times higher than the national average.
It Is Not Just About Bad Habits
While breaking bad habits ranked number one, New Yorkers are also searching a lot about improving other parts of their lives. After bad habits, the most searched topics in New York were travel, health and fitness, career goals, and financial goals.

Why So Many People Are Thinking About Change
December is usually when people start thinking about fresh starts. After busy holidays and a long year, many people begin to notice what they want to do differently. In New York, where life can feel fast and stressful, it makes sense that people are looking for ways to feel healthier, more focused, and more balanced going into the new year.
How Researchers Figured This Out
To find these trends, researchers studied Google searches from December 1 through December 30, 2025. They looked at 70 different search terms connected to goals, grouped into areas like health, money, career, habits, hobbies, and travel. Then they compared how popular each category was in every state.
What This Says About New Yorkers in 2026
The data suggested that New Yorkers are not just hoping for change, they are looking for ways to make it happen. Whether it is cutting back on phone time, getting healthier, saving money, or planning a trip, people in our state are ready for a better version of themselves.
