Binghamton Black Bears Make Hockey History and Bring a Championship Parade to Downtown Binghamton
If you’ve spent the past few years cheering on the Binghamton Black Bears, Monday is going to feel pretty special. For the first time, downtown Binghamton is getting a full championship procession for the team after another unforgettable season on the ice.
The event takes place tonight, May 11, with players and staff making their way down Washington Street beginning at 5:30 p.m. before heading toward the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, where the celebration will continue with a street party outside the arena.
And if you’ve got jerseys, hats, hoodies, rally towels, or anything else in black and gold, this is probably the night to break them out.
This Team Just Pulled Off Something the League Has Never Seen Before
Saturday night’s win over the Pee Dee IceCats wasn’t just another title victory. The Black Bears became the first organization in FPHL history to capture three straight Commissioner’s Cup titles.
That’s a huge accomplishment in professional hockey, especially in a league where rosters and momentum can shift so quickly from year to year.
For Binghamton hockey fans, it also feels like one of those moments you remember for a long time because this city has always shown up for its teams. The energy was electrifying in Binghamton this weekend as people packed into watch parties, refreshed scores on their phones, and waited to see if history was about to happen.
The Championship Game Started With Some Early Tension
Things didn’t exactly begin comfortably for Binghamton in Game 4.
The IceCats grabbed the first goal of the night during a penalty kill opportunity, putting Pee Dee ahead 1 to 0 after the opening period. There were a few moments early on where it looked like the series might head for another game.
But the Black Bears settled in quickly during the middle frame.
The Second Period Changed Everything for Binghamton
The momentum swing came when Gehrett Sargis fired home the equalizer from the top of the circle, lighting up the crowd and completely changing the feel of the game. From there, Binghamton kept pressing.
Kyle Stephan added another goal after carrying the puck in from the boards, and Scott Ramakers extended the lead again before the period came to a close. Suddenly, what had been a tight battle turned into a commanding advantage heading into the final 20 minutes.
Pee Dee added one more score later in the game, but by then, fans could already sense what was coming. And the Black Bears took the win!

Monday Night Will Feel Like a Huge Community Party
What makes nights like tonight fun isn’t just the trophy. It’s seeing an entire community come together around something positive.
Downtown Binghamton has seen plenty of memorable sports moments over the years, but there’s something especially exciting about seeing the streets filled with people celebrating a hometown hockey club that just made league history.
If you’re heading downtown tonight, get there early, wear your Black Bears gear, and expect a loud, happy crowd ready to celebrate a team that gave Binghamton another championship season to remember.
