Snow and Slick Roads Expected Tuesday in the Binghamton Area
Today looks fairly uneventful, with a partly sunny sky and a high near 30. A light northwest breeze will fade through the afternoon. It will feel like a typical December day, but it’s also the setup for what arrives overnight.
Snow Arrives Late Tonight
Clouds increase tonight, and snow becomes possible after about 4 a.m. Overnight lows drop near 20. While snowfall amounts overnight stay under a half inch, even light snow could lead to slick spots by the early morning hours, especially on bridges and untreated roads.
Tuesday Brings Steadier Snow
Snow is expected to continue through much of Tuesday and could be heavy at times. High temperatures reach the low 30s, with light winds. Several inches of accumulation are expected, with early forecasts pointing to around five inches and the potential for higher totals in some areas.

First Widespread Snowfall For Many Areas
This will be the first widespread snowfall of the season for much of the region, outside the lake-effect areas. While this is a manageable storm, it has been some time since many drivers have dealt with winter road conditions. The Tuesday morning commute could be impacted by slick roads and reduced visibility.
Winter Storm Watch In Effect
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Winter Storm Watch from late tonight through Tuesday evening for Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, and Tioga counties, along with parts of northeast Pennsylvania. Forecast guidance shows the potential for seven inches of snow or more in some locations. Travel may become difficult during both the morning and evening commutes on Tuesday.
Travel Could Be Impacted
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead. Checking the latest forecast, allowing extra travel time, and making sure vehicles are winter-ready can help reduce issues on the roads. Even moderate snowfall can quickly create hazardous conditions during high-traffic times of day.

Additional Updates Expected
Snow is expected to begin early Tuesday morning and end from west to east Tuesday afternoon. Forecast details, including snowfall totals and timing, are subject to change as the system approaches.
