
A Downtown March and Message of Unity Planned in Binghamton
The Broome County MLK Commission is inviting the community to come together this January for a meaningful celebration honoring the life, legacy, and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The annual event brings neighbors together for reflection, music, and shared purpose during one of the year's most important observances.
The Evening Begins With a Downtown March
This year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026. The evening begins with a march at 5:30 p.m., starting at the MLK Promenade at the Court Street Bridge, next to Boscov’s in downtown Binghamton. From there, participants will move together to the service location.
A Service Focused on Reflection, Music, and Meaning
The main service begins at 6:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church, located at 30 Main Street in Binghamton. The program will include musical performances, remarks from special guests, and a keynote address designed to inspire and reflect on Dr. King’s enduring impact.

Keynote Speaker Bringing Dr. King’s Message to Today
This year’s keynote speaker is Reverend Jeffery Simmons of Renewal of Life Church in Palmyra, New York. Reverend Simmons will deliver remarks centered on Dr. King’s message and its continued relevance today, offering words meant to resonate across generations.
A Celebration Open to the Entire Community
Hosted by the Broome County MLK Commission, the celebration is chaired by Reverend Arthur W. Jones Jr. The event has long served as a space for the community to pause, reflect, and come together with a shared sense of purpose. It’s open to all who wish to honor Dr. King’s legacy by attending and participating.
