The Most-Searched Halloween Costume in Binghamton Isn’t What You’d Expect
There's something strangely comforting about knowing you are not the only parent making an impulsive Halloween decision at midnight. Case in point: I just ordered three inflatable T-Rex costumes because our 10-year-old son asked if his dad and I would match him this year.
Was I planning to stomp through the neighborhood as a synchronized inflatable dinosaur trio? Not originally. But I also know that someday soon, he will not want us tagging along at all, and I am not wasting my last golden years of being “cool enough to join.” So, T-Rex it is. Or rather, T-Rex times three.
Frightgeist Reveals What Binghamton Is Secretly Searching for This Halloween
If you have ever panicked Googled “easy Halloween costumes that won’t make me sweat to death,” you are contributing to a massive wave of October search traffic that Google quietly monitors with pride. Their Frightgeist tool tracks which costumes are trending across the country, comparing search interest from September 2025 to September 2024, and let me tell you, Binghamton’s top costume lineup is nothing like I expected.

Binghamton Is Split Between Cute, Creepy, and Classic
According to Frightgeist, the number one trending costume in the Binghamton area is Labubu. If you do not know who that is, you are not alone. Kids do, and apparently so do dog owners, but more on that later. In second place is Boo from Monsters, Inc., which feels right for Upstate New York: cozy, sweet and slightly chaotic. Things take a sharp turn in third place with Pennywise from It, followed by Wilma Flintstone in fourth. Padmé from Star Wars rounds out the top five, proving that Binghamton likes its Halloween lineup cute, creepy and a little bit nostalgic.
Meanwhile, the Rest of the Country Has Entered Its K-Pop Costume Era
While Binghamton is bouncing between cartoon toddlers and horror clowns, the rest of the country has drifted into something entirely different. Every single one of the top overall costumes this year comes from KPop Demon Hunters, a franchise I had to Google like every other confused GenX parent.
Rumi is the number one searched costume nationwide, and she is apparently responsible for a huge spike in searches for dragon braids and purple hair. Zoey is driving space bun trends, Mira has people looking up pink wigs and yellow skirts, Jinu is the top trending “demon” costume, and Baby Saja has pushed pink argyle sweaters to a twelve-year high. Somewhere out there, fashion bloggers are trying to figure out how this happened.
Kids Are Fully Locked Into a Trend Most Adults Can’t Name
When it comes to children’s costumes specifically, K-Pop Demon Hunters dominates completely. The top five most searched kid costumes are Rumi, Labubu, Zoey, Mira and Jinu. Translation: if you see a child in a pink wig or space buns and you have no idea what they are supposed to be, just smile and say “You look amazing” like every responsible adult trying to stay relevant.
Somewhere in Binghamton, a Dog Is Being Stuffed Into a Tiger Suit
I thought I had seen it all until Google informed me that dog costumes are now part of the trending landscape. Labubu shows up again as the most searched pet costume, followed by Derpy the Tiger from the same franchise. After that comes the classics: chicken costumes, IHOP-themed dogs, and Krypto the Superdog. Somewhere out there, a golden retriever is getting zipped into a tiger suit and preparing to embarrass its owners in the best possible way.

When Your Kid Invites You to Be a Dinosaur, You Roar Along
At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter whether you dress up as Wilma Flintstone, Pennywise, Labubu or a seven-foot dinosaur with foggy plastic vision. What matters is this: if your kid still wants you beside them on Halloween night, you say yes. And if that means stomping down the sidewalk in an inflatable T-Rex suit with your spouse flapping behind you, then you commit fully and proudly.
Because one day soon, they will be too cool for costumes, too busy for candy and too fast for us to catch up. Until then, let them lead, even if it means roaring through the neighborhood like a prehistoric parade float.
