Will You Need to Bundle Up This Halloween in Binghamton
I remember those Halloween nights when the weather was less than ideal. Do you? It's been a few years. Okay, a lot of years ago, but I remember some Halloween evenings that were quite cold...and some with snow.
And of course, our well-meaning parents would make us wear a coat over our costume when going out to trick-or-treat. That made me mad. How will anyone know what Halloween costume I'm wearing, if it's covered up with a winter coat?
My argument fell on deaf ears. At least I had a mask...you know, one of those 1960s plastic Halloween masks with the stretchy elastic band to hold it on your head. Those elastic bands were tight and hurt on the back of my head.

Did you ever experience snow on Halloween while trick-or-treating? I remember one Halloween we experienced an accumulation of a few inches of snow, but that didn't keep us from our round of collecting as much candy as possible throughout the neighborhood.
So, the question is, will we see any snowflakes, and/or will it be cold for Halloween 2024? According to the National Weather Service, we could see a high of 74 and a low of 51, so I'm just spitballing here, but I think snow is out of the question. The forecast is partly sunny during the day and a chance of evening rain.
I wonder if that would be a record for high temperatures on Halloween day? Well, according to the Extreme Weather Watch, the record is 73 degrees set in 1950, so yeah, we might break that record! BTW, the coldest Halloween was 17 degrees in 1893.
Fun fact: Snow fell on Halloween in 1993. According to the National Weather Service, 6.8 inches fell at the Greater Binghamton Airport. In 2016, snowflakes fell around the Binghamton National Weather Service. Other than that, do you remember any other Halloween dates when we experienced snowfall?
