The Pink Patch Project has returned for 2025. For the 3rd year in a row, Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections Officers and Deputies are going pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, helping to raise funds for local families battling cancer.

During the first 2 years of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Pink Patch Project, over $7,400 was raised for the Community Foundation, the Tina Fund, and Traci’s Hope. Proceeds went toward assisting local families fighting cancer by assisting with groceries, childcare, or other expenses related to the fight against cancer.

Corrections Officer Courtney Richard designed the 2025 logo. It will be featured on this year’s t-shirts and sweaters. These items can be purchased, which supports the Pink Patch Project.

The project is a national campaign that brings law enforcement and the community together to raise breast cancer awareness and helps local families fighting cancer. 1 in 8 women in the US is at risk of developing breast cancer.

We’re so proud of Officer McPeek for coming to us with this idea, and seeing it through to fruition said Sheriff Fred Akshar. Cancer is an issue that’s greatly affected my family and affects so many families across our community,” said McPeek. That makes it all the more inspiring to see so many of my fellow officers, colleagues, and community members coming together to help our local families who are fighting this terrible disease. -Broome County Corrections Officer Jennifer McPeek
