Christmas is over. The music has stopped. At least until next October when holiday music will be once again playing wherever you go.

I hope you had a nice Christmas and Santa brought you everything you asked for. I still haven't received that drum set I've been wishing for since I was a kid. Maybe my wish got lost somewhere between Binghamton and the North Pole.

Anyway, since we are on the subject of our youth and Christmas, I asked what was the best toy you ever received for Christmas when you were a kid. Wow, I received some interesting answers. Toys I had forgotten about.

My memory isn't what it used to be, and I can't remember most of what I got for Christmas, but I do remember getting one of those small,  personal reel-to-reel tape recorders.

I don't remember the brand name (Radio Shack maybe?) But I used it for recording songs off the radio and that's where I began my interest in becoming a radio DJ. I'd have to say it was the best gift I ever received for Christmas when I was a kid.

Take a look at the responses of toys from the past that kids from the Southern Tier of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania considered their favorite.

  • Peg T. - Atari.
  • Michael D. - Bicycle.
  • Cathy M. - A turntable for albums, which also included the ability to play 8 tracks and the radio. Along with my very first Pure Gold album. (I had many after that). Yes, I'm dating myself. But that is one of my fondest memories. My parents did well that year.
  • Jason L. - Socks.
  • Suzy A. - Suzy homemaker oven ( like an easy bake oven ). Years later, my mom told me, she and my sister (14 at the time), went to the local Grandway at midnight to get oven !!!! It actually made a few cakes with a lightbulb!
  • Amber R. - 64 pack of Crayola crayons and a Flintstones coloring book! I spent hours coloring.
  • Robin B. - Mine was my John and Jane West dolls with the ranch and Jeep.
  • Jodi W. - Without a doubt my first Cabbage Patch Kid!!!
  • Sundee M. - A doll my aunt bought at the Salvation Army and it had a dress on it made of a dish towel. 66 years old and still have that doll. Not sure what happened to the dress
  • Deborah S. - The year I got my first little record player and records I was so happy.
  • Doug R. - A train set and a box of Cheerios!
  • Roger S. - I got a Lionel train set with a train that puffed out smoke and a train horn. It was pretty cool back in them days.
  • Cheryl F. - I loved my etch-a-sketch. Chinese checkers and spiralgraph.
  • Paula D. - Mine wasn’t a gift it was Grandma Rose coming over.
  • Jason H. - New bicycle at four and a GI Joe trainer at 11.
  • Michelle M. - Every year for several years, my grandparents would buy me a porcelain doll, many of which I still have today, and my mom would get me a Gund bear, again I still have several of them. Not exactly toys to play with but they are very special to me.
  • Cyndee Monk - A huge doll house!
  • Theresa P. - My Lionel train set.
  • Bonnie R. - I don’t really remember the toys. I DO remember the happy feelings I had. And waking my dad up no matter how early because he was as much a kid about Christmas as I was! Of course, I’m talking about the 60s and 70s.
  • Stephanie M. I’ll never forget the year I got a bike!
  • Dona H. - My Etch-a-Sketch & my slinky.
  • Paula E. - When I was 5, my dad gave me a talking teddy bear. 50 years later, he has lost an eye and his nose and doesn't talk anymore, but I still have him dressed in his Santa suit, next to the Christmas Tree.
  • Betty A. - A Mrs. Beasley doll.
  • Kathy G. - Coloring books and the big box of crayons with the sharpener.
  • Jackie D. - Moon shoes!
  • Renee M. - Barbie Dream House!
  • Crystal C. - Spirograph!
  • Lori M. - Cabbage patch dolls.
  • Darcie C. - Perfection double with the space bar we would race and pop the other player's board.
  • Kim G. - NSYNC dolls and Brittany spears dolls.
  • Betty O. - No big decision. In our generation, we were fortunate to get one. I am not complaining as we appreciated it and Christmas was great. Big family gathering and lots of Love. My parents managed very well to raise 8 kids and give us what they did!
  • Gail M. - Hot wheels and Lifesaver Christmas book with assorted flavored lifesavers.
  • Bonnie H. - Betsey wetsey doll.
  • Dorene J. - My Barbie House.
  • Colleen K. - Baby Alive and Easy Bake Oven.
  • Donna E. - Chatty Cathy doll.
  • Heather F. - Girl Talk.
  • Jenny C. - Breyer horses.
  • Paul M. - Evil Knievel motorcycle.
  • Carol B. - A life-size doll that I could put real baby clothes on it.
  • Jamie C. - Alf! I was obsessed with the show Alf as a kid and apparently begged my parents for an Alf teddy bear. I still have it all tattered sitting on the shelf.
  • Kristine F. - A big stuffed green dog. My grandad had sent my little brother a gift in the mail years ago which was a HESS gasoline truck but my dad fearing my granddad had forgotten to get me a gift bought me the great big green stuffed dog.
  • Janet L. - Puppy.
  • Edward H. - My plastic dukes of Hazzard pedal car.
  • Barbara W. - A dollhouse…the tin kind from the 1940s! It had furniture and a tiny baby doll to put into a little crib! I was in heaven! I think I was maybe six.
