It's a good thing when we hear something positive about our community from outside sources. It happens more times than you may think.

The latest example comes from a release from Binghamton University. According to the announcement, the University has been mentioned in a new book by New York Times best-selling author, Jeffrey Selingo.

The book is titled 'Dream School' - Finding The College That's Right For You. Among the thousands of colleges to choose from, Selingo's book highlights 75 accessible and affordable colleges.

According to the announcement, Binghamton University is the only SUNY school on the list of colleges and universities. 'Dream School' examines what students and parents should look for when deciding which college or university to attend for continuing education.

This recognition is a reminder of the responsibility to invest in what matters – academic innovation, hands-on learning, and support for student success – so that students who learn at Binghamton University go on to contribute to the common good. - Harvey Stenger, Binghamton University President

Binghamton University noted that Selingo's picks in the book were determined by several factors: accessible admissions, solid career earnings compared to the cost of attending the college, job prospects for students, student engagement, and the financial stability of the institution, which, when combined, is a recipe for career success.

Why Binghamton University? Reasons include the First-year Research Immersion program, which gives first-year students a head start by connecting them with research opportunities with faculty members, and the University's 90% retention rate of first-year students returning for their sophomore year is similar to that of a public flagship institution or elite private university.

Jeffrey Selingo is a nationally recognized author who has published four books for students forming post-high school plans and colleges evaluating how they impact students.

According to Binghamton University, Selingo's books have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller, New York Times 100 Notable Books of the Year, New York Times Editors’ Choice, and USA Today Bestseller lists.
