Thanksgiving week is filled with just about everything you can think of, including travel, food, family, friends, sports, shopping, and maybe some much-needed rest.

This weekend also marks the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony in Binghamton. Mayor Jared Kraham announced on November 24th that the ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 29th, at the Washington Street Mall in downtown Binghamton.

The festivities will kick off at 5 p.m., featuring live music, caroling from the Vavalle Voice Studio, holiday activities, and free hot chocolate. The tree lighting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. This year's tree has been donated by Sunny Hill Farms in Endwell.

Downtown Binghamton’s tree lighting ceremony has become a beloved tradition in our community, where folks can come together and celebrate the start of the holiday season. Thanks to our sponsors, we’re able to continue this celebration each year. This event is also a great opportunity for residents to kick off their holiday shopping and support our local shops and restaurants on Small Business Saturday. - City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham

Parking will be free for the event in the city-owned garages. Binghamton is waiving garage parking fees beginning this Saturday, November 29th, through Saturday, December 20th.

Maor Kraham noted that Saturday, November 29th, is Small Business Saturday, and several Binghamton businesses will be offering discounts and holding events. Visitors to the Downtown area can take part in the “Passport to Washington Street” promotion, which will be available only this Saturday, November 29th.
