For the seventh year, the annual backpack and school supply program is back in Binghamton. This year will be the largest backpack and school supply program according to Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham, CARES Advocates For Families Incorporated and other community partners, organizing the event.

1,100 backpacks filled with school supplies are being offered to Binghamton students, funded by the City of Binghamton, and a combination of the Community Development Block Grant and general fund youth programming dollars.

Binghamton’s young people deserve every opportunity to thrive at school and succeed well beyond graduation. That starts with making sure every child has the basic supplies needed to learn and grow. This is our seventh year partnering with CARES on a backpack and school supply program, and our biggest one yet. We’re committed to investing in our young people and the future of our City. - Binghamton Mayor Kraham

Backpacks are first come, first served basis, and students must be present to pick up a backpack. According to the City of Binghamton, these backpacks are available free of charge to children in grades Pre-K through 12th who attend a Binghamton City school.

The dates, times and locations backpack distributions are as follows:

  Wednesday, August 23rd from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Walnut Street Park located at 121 Walnut Street, Binghamton.

Thursday, August 24th from 10 a.m. 12 noon at the  Lee Barta Community Center at 108 Liberty Street, Binghamton

 Friday, August 25th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at  Recreation Park, 103 Laurel Avenue, Binghamton, Saratoga Apartments Community Center at 60 Saratoga Avenue, Binghamton and Carlisle Hills Apartments Community Center at 150 Moeller Street, Binghamton
