Fatal Car Vs. Home Crash in Davenport, New York
In the early hours of Sunday, September 29, 2024, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a fatal single-vehicle accident on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport, resulting in the death of a local resident.
According to the investigation conducted by Deputies and Sheriff’s Criminal Investigators, at around 1:03 AM, Jayden E. Aviles, 18, of Tarrytown, NY, was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat eastbound on State Highway 23. While approaching a sharp left-hand curve, Aviles lost control of the vehicle, veering off the right side of the road and crashing into a private residence. The vehicle came to a stop in the living room, where two men were sleeping at the time. Both were seriously injured in the crash.
One of the victims, 34-year-old Larry J. Vankeuren, was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Criminal Investigations Division remained at the scene for several hours as the investigation continued.
Sheriff DuMond extended his gratitude to the following agencies for their assistance: the Davenport, East Meredith, and Pindars Corners Fire Departments, Delaware County Ambulance, AMR, Sidney EMS, Headwaters EMS, Delaware County Emergency Services, Delhi Police Department, and the New York State Police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
