New Drone Flock Cameras Causing Massive Controversy in New York State

There are new cameras in the sky that will be used to fly overhead and scan and record things for police use and it is causing a controversy within the community.

Flock cameras are used to quickly search for cars or criminals, but in the process they log vehicle license plates, make, model, color and more information. The problem is that a lot of people are not comfortable with all of their information being stored. Law enforcement and officials say that the information is only used when absolutely needed and that the information is only stored for so long before it is deleted.

Lancaster, New York now has DRONE flock cameras that fly over your houses.

`The Lancaster Police Department is going to start using the drone flock cameras in starting in September. It will only be tested the first few months, but the Lancaster Bee says that the police will have a way that residents can see when and where they will be flown at the very least, during the test flights.

There are so many flock cameras around Western New York right now including Cheektowaga, New York which was the subject of a lot of controversy with the flock cameras. Typically, they are installed on posts along the roads so that it can pick up car information easy. The Lancaster Bee posted about how the police will be using the flock drones in the near future:

The department will provide a transparency portal for residents to view flight patterns and review each drone launch when the three-month trial begins in September. Officers say this technology will aid in investigating various incidents, making its way to the scene of a crime, fire, or natural disaster faster than any officer.
