A hunter in Cortland County is hospitalized after being shot in the abdomen.

Sheriff’s officials say the man was shot at 4:06 p.m. December 6 while hunting in the woods off Route 221 just east of Fish Hill Road in the Town of Willet.

Deputies say the other hunter apparently didn’t know the 24 year old was also in the area.

The 53 year old was questioned and released.

Authorities say the men were not hunting together and neither knew each other.

The wounded man was flown by a medical helicopter to Upstate Medical in Syracuse.

The names of the two hunters are not being released and the condition of the wounded man is unknown.

The investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information is asked to call Lieutenant Todd Caufield in the Cortland County Criminal Investigation Division at (607) 758-6151.
