Twenty Groups of over 200 volunteers will be scouring the banks of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers to collect trash that could otherwise wash into waterways and negatively impact local water quality.

Along with working along the river banks the clean-up crews will be picking up debris on trails near the rivers, fishing access points and parks.

Expect to see workers in select areas around Chenango Bridge, Port Dickinson, Port Crane, Binghamton, Endicott, Endwell, Johnson City and Vestal.

Organizers say among the volunteers are students from Maine Endwell, Union Endicott, Binghamton University, Seton Catholic and SUNY Broome Community College, Scouts, church groups, professional and environmental clubs and families.

In addition to the Riverbank Cleanup project, the Broome Environmental Management Council says its popular Joyce K.L. Smith Environmental Photography Competition will return next year.  Updated information can be found at www.gobroomecounty.com/emc  or on Facebook@BroomeEMC.
