HURRAY! The Kentucky Derby is back this Saturday, May 1st and we couldn't be happier...for many reasons. Fans will be back at Churchill Downs as 45,000 patrons will be allowed to attend. In a normal year, it could be as high as 170,000 but this is certainly better than none at all.

Favorite To Win The Kentucky Derby

Essential Quality was listed as the odds-on favorite at 2/1 and is starting from the 14th post position. He is the first gray horse to be favored to win in 25 years. That's some pretty exciting news but for the Southern Tier, we have bigger and better news,

The Southern Tiers Adam Weitsman co-owns a horse (along with Syracuse coach, Jim Boeheim) that will be in the race on Saturday as Hidden Stash will be in the 147th Run for the Roses.

How Hidden Stash Made The Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is open to the top 20 horses who qualify for the race by earning points on the 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby. Hidden Stash was ranked 22nd on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard and was able to move up into the top 20 for the race when other horse owners dropped out.

Hidden Stash's odds are high but if he wins that could bring you in some big bucks. His Kentucky Derby odds began at 50/1 and he will start from the 13th post position. He'll be starting next to Essential Quality and maybe he'll be able to draft with the horse to the front.

Here's some more good news, Weitsman has said that he will donate any winnings to charities around Central New York, so some of that will certainly find its way to our area. I'm thinking about betting a buck or two (I know big spender) on Hidden Stash to show.

NBC has the coverage on Saturday and post time is scheduled for 6:57 p.m. Go here to keep up with the current odds on Hidden Stash, Essential Quality, and the rest of the field.

The other Triple Crown events are The Preakness on 15th at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore and the Belmont Stakes on June 5th  at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY. We hope that Hidden Stash will make it there too.
