This year, Binghamton area residents ringing in the New Year have a new transportation option.

This is the first New Year’s Eve where the Uber ride-hailing service has been operational.

Local Uber representatives say party-goers can pick up or drop off friends on the way to multiple destinations and can split the fare using the Uber app.

Uber users are reminded to check their ride to make sure they are getting into the correct car.  Riders should make sure the car make, model and license plate matches what is in the app before getting in and confirm the driver’s name and that he or she looks like the photo in the Uber app.

During New Year’s Eve it is likely fares will be higher due to an increase volume of riders.  Uber says riders will be shown the price before they request a ride so there are no surprises. They are then asked to confirm the higher fare before they request.  The services say the highest fares will likely be between midnight and 3 a.m.
