Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Congressman Richard Hanna says presidential candidate Donald Trump's suggestion that Muslims not be allowed to enter the United States is "un-American, ill-advised [and] dangerous."

Trump on December 7 called for a "total and complete shutdown" of Muslims entering the country until officials "can figure out what is going on."

Hanna, who like Trump is a Republican, said "such a divisive suggestion has no place in our national dialogue."

The 22nd District congressman said that there is a real terrorist threat. He said he supports taking extra precautions and reforming the visa waiver program.

Hanna said he also had supported a proposal to halt the admission of refugees from Syria and Iraq until federal agencies certify that they don't pose a threat to national security.

Most of Trump's competitors in the race for the Republican presidential nomination have strongly criticized the call to keep Muslims from entering the United States.
