Hall of Fame Adds Four

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown added four new members with induction ceremonies at the Clark Sports complex yesterday.  New members include pitchers Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and Randy Johnson and second baseman and outfielder Craig Biggio.  49 members of the Hall of Fame returned to welcome the new inductees.

Matinez had a huge contingent of fans from his native Dominican Republic in attendance.  He give part of his speech in Spanish.  Martinez won three Cy Young Awards and five ERA titles in 18 Big League seasons.

Smoltz was a combination starter and relief pitcher who won 213 games and saved 154 more during his 21 seasons in the Majors.  He was an eight-time All-Star selection and won the 1996 National League Cy Young Award.

Johnson won 303 games in over 22 seasons with stints with six different teams.  He won the Cy Young Award in 1995 with Seattle and four consecutive Cy Young Awards with Arizona.

Craig Biggio played all 20 seasons of his career with the Houston Astros.  He is one of just 29 players to get 3,000 or more career hits.  Biggio was a seven-time All-Star and won  the Gold Glove Award at second base four times.
