A Ukranian woman is admitting marriage fraud in a sham union with a Binghamton man in order to obtain permanent residency in the U.S.

United States Attorney Richard Hartunian says 29 year old Natalia Polkowski has pleaded guilty in Federal Court in Binghamton to conspiracy to commit marriage fraud.

Her husband, John Polkowski, pleaded guilty to the same charge in April of 2014 when he admitted he was promised $10,000 for entering into the sham marriage.

Natalia Polkowsi admitted she never intended to establish a life with her husband and just entered into the marriage in order to remain in the United States.

The woman faces up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine when she is sentenced in July.
