Government Employees in Binghamton Compete for Golden Can
While government workers in downtown Binghamton have been locked in competition for the Golden Can award, the real winner is the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).
The New York State Office Building is the winner of the 2nd Annual Governmental Plaza Thanksgiving Food Challenge to benefit the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse in Binghamton.
The “Golden Can” went to state workers for gathering the most food for CHOW last week. The friendly competition pitted the state, county and city offices against each other in an attempt to collect the most non-perishable food donations for the local hunger abatement agency.
Over 11,000 meals will be possible for local families as a result of this year’s effort.
CHOW and its partner agencies distribute over 2.2 million pounds of food each year.
Donations to the Governmental Plaza drive can still be made online at www.BroomeCouncil.Net/Donate-Now. CHOW is able to acquire five meals for each dollars donated to be distributed to the food insecure in the area.
