It's almost been five years since the Coronavirus Pandemic first hit the USA. Most had no idea how this would affect our lives in ways nothing else has.

Things have settled down a lot since the beginning of the pandemic, but COVID-19 is still around, and people continue to get sick. I had the covid virus early in 2021, but have been lucky to avoid it since. Well, until now.

This month, what I thought was a cold, tested positive for Covid. The first try was inconclusive since the test had expired. I threw out the rest of the expired tests I had at home, but if you have an expired test, before you throw it out, check to see if your COVID test kit has been extended by visiting the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website.

The next step was to get a current text kit. I thought test kits were still free, but I was wrong on that account. It cost me 20 dollars for two tests.

But that is about to change. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, households will be able to order (4) four free COVID-19 test kits that will be mailed to their homes from COVIDTests.gov. before the end of September 2024.  The COVID-19 Tests will detect current COVID-19 variants and can be used through the end of 2024.

The Health and Human Services Department notes that the U.S. government continues to make COVID-19 tests available to uninsured individuals and underserved communities through existing outreach programs. For more information, contact an HRSA-funded health center or ICATT location near you.
