The man who started Doug's Fish Fry restaurants and its popular mobile units has died.

Douglas Lee Clark died September 27 at a Syracuse hospital, according to an obituary posted on the website of Butler-Badman Funeral Home. He was 76 years old.

Doug's Fish Fry began as a single restaurant in Skaneateles in 1982. Many residents of the Binghamton area became acquainted with Doug's after a second restaurant opened in Cortland.

In recent years, Doug's Fish Fry mobile units were a common site in Broome and Tioga counties. The sales of fried fish and other seafood items raised thousands of dollars for many community organizations.

According to the obituary, Clark was known as the "flounder" of Doug's Fish Fry. He worked at the restaurant he founded for 20 years before retiring.

Funeral services were private. Clark was buried at Onondaga Valley Cemetery in Nedrow.
