Former Cornell Student Accused of Having a Cache of Weapons
Students living around where a former Cornell University student was said to have bomb-making materials and an AR-15 rifle in his apartment near campus say they’re shocked and unsettled by the news.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York says 19 year old Maximilien Reynolds is charged with possessing a silencer and a destructive device as well as aiding and abetting the straw purchase of a rifle.
Ithaca Police started their investigation when an employee at a local store reported concerns about some of the items Reynolds was purchasing.
Police and FBI Agents say the seized an un-assembled AR-15 rifle, homemade silencer, ammunition, a gas mask, pipes and equipment for making explosive devices.
The firearm and silencer possession charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison each while the aiding and abetting charges carry a maximum of up to another 10 years in prison.
Reynolds has been ordered held without bail to await a hearing.
