There have been many books, movies and TV shows about baseball, but none as endearing and hilariously funny as Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s On First”

It’s finally baseball season and I thought we would flashback to one of the funniest comedy sketches from the greatest comedy duo of the 20th century Budd Abbott and Lou Costello

Although the “Who’s on First” routine is credited to Abbott and Costello although there was a bit of plagiarism involved, the routine developed out of an old vaudeville routine that had been used by earlier performers, but in a different context.

The comedy duo started developing their own version in the late 1930’s and had perfected it by the time the act became well known.

Abbott and Costello performed the act many times including in front of President Franklin Roosevelt, and in 1940, the routine made it into their first motion picture “One Night in the Tropics” and a revamped version in the 1945 film “The Naughty Nineties”

There is a recording of the routine in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York

“Who’s on First” has been performed several times on radio and television throughout the years and I never get tired of hearing it. The timing of these two comedic geniuses is impeccable.

Let’s Flashback and take a few minutes to enjoy a real gem. Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First”
