First Ward Gateway Project is Declared Complete

New York State and local officials say Binghamton’s First Ward Gateway development is complete.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the opening of the $12.3 million affordable housing development under Southern Tier Soaring.

The project developed 37 housing units on Front Street.

The gateway was devastated by Tropical Storm Lee, leaving a primary route into the City of Binghamton a mash of abandoned and deteriorating houses and bone-jarring potholes.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David says some finishing touches will still be made including curb and sidewalk work and lighting.
