Broome County officials have announced one person diagnosed with COVID-19 has died in Binghamton.

County Executive Jason Garnar Saturday afternoon said the death had occurred at Lourdes Hospital.

Garnar said this was a new confirmed coronavirus case in addition to the two others that had previously been announced.

The Broome County Health Department is contacting people who may have been in with the person who died. Health investigators are still working to determine who must be informed.

No more information is being made public because of patient privacy regulations.

County officials are continuing to urge people to remain at home and avoid contact with others. Those who feel sick and don't need immediate attention should contact their healthcare provider first before heading to an emergency room.
