Fire Risk Remains in Spite of Rain Threat
Rain and wet soil may be enough to cause concerns about flash flooding for the weekend but it’s not enough to ally brush fire worries.
Local fire officials say even though the ground could become saturated enough to be unable to absorb a heavy downpour April 19-20, the soil is not wet enough to keep fire from spreading.
A New York State-wide ban on open burning is in place until May 14th due to the higher risk of brush fires. Residents are prohibited from openly burning leave and brush or other materials and a year-round ban on the burning of garbage is in place in the state.
