Fire Destroys Smithville Flats Home

Officials are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Smithville Flats overnight March 31.

Chenango County Emergency Services officials say firefighters from a half dozen companies were called to the home on County Road 2 at around 10:20 p.m.

Crews from Smithville Flats, Greene, McDonough, Pharsalia, Willet and Cinncinatus were able to return to their fire stations by about 3 a.m. April 1.

There were no injuries.

The home was said to be a total loss.
