Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a centuries-old Town of Owego farmhouse that was vacant as it was undergoing renovations.

Fire Crews from the Southside Fire Company were joined at the site on Waits Road shortly before 11 a.m. March 24 by crews from Owego and Campville.

Fire officials say the balloon frame construction of the estimated 200-year old home allowed for the flames to spread fairly quickly.

While crews were able to get most of the fire out in a short amount of time, firefighters had to attack several hot spots that flared up in the walls.

There were no injuries.
